Dr. Heinz Schwer, MBA

management: Heinz SchwerDr. Schwer, has been Chief Executive Officer of Sloning BioTechnology since 2005. Previously he held the position of Chief  Operating Officer, where he was  responsible for Business Development  and Marketing activities. In 2001 he co- founded the Company, heading the R&D department until proof-of-concept was achieved in 2003. Heinz Schwer attended Harvard Medical School and the Dana-Farber-Cancer Institute in Boston, where he served as a postdoctoral fellow from 1999-2001. He has received numerous awards, including a fellowship for his research in the field of leukemia disease at the Harvard Institute of Medicine in Boston. He obtained his Ph.D. in clinical chemistry from the University of Regensburg, Germany and holds a degree in chemistry. Additionally, Heinz Schwer is an MBA graduate from Henley Management College, UK. He is a founding member and Vice President of the International Association Synthetic Biology (IASB).


Garry Merry
Vice President of Commercial Operations

management: Garry MerryGarry Merry has been Vice President of Commercial Operations of Sloning BioTechnology since April 2009. He is responsible for the alignment of people, process and technology to support commercial activities and improve both innovation and marketing effectiveness.
 Former CEO at MWG-Biotech (1997-2000) and CEO of Operon/Qiagen (2001-2005), he was responsible for global service-based business of approx. $48.0M with facilities in the US, Europe and Japan. Previously Mr Merry conducted his own consulting and marketing services company to assist new start-up companies or established companies with no life science market experience in getting to market or entering the market with new technology. His clients have included: Arcturus Engineering (US), LI-COR (US), Becton Dickinson (US), MWG-Biotech (Germany), AromaScan (UK), Bioneer (Korea), Kurabo (Japan), Cybeles (Thailand) and others. Garry Merry’s career in the life sciences started as a Medical Laboratory Technician at Ballochmyle Hospital in Scotland. Following undergraduate studies at Glasgow College of Technology and a graduate degree in Protein Chemistry from St. Andrews University, he joined Waters Associates as a Project Manager responsible for the sales and marketing of HPLC to the Life Science Market in the UK. After four years at Waters, Mr. Merry joined Beckman Instruments International based in Geneva, Switzerland in the role of European Sales & Marketing Manager.
In 1984 Garry moved to the San Francisco Bay Area and joined Applied Biosystems. During his five years at ABI he rose to the position of Business Unit Marketing Manager and managed all aspects of marketing for both the Protein and Separations Business Units, with combined revenues of $150M. After five successful years with Applied Biosystems, he joined Millipore as Director of Marketing for their Milligen/Biosearch Division.
 

Sandra Keller
Head of Finance and Administration

Sandra Keller has been Head of Finance and Administration of Sloning BioTechnology since January 2009. She started in October 2006 at the Company as Manager Finance and Controlling and developed successfully a cost accounting and calculation as well as a liquidity planning and a reporting scheme for Sloning's investors. With enthusiasm and considerable finance expertise, she rapidly established herself in Sloning's Executive Management Team. In this Position, Mrs Keller is responsible for Finance, Controlling, Human Ressources and Investors Relations. Prior to Sloning, Mrs Keller started her career at an auditing and tax consulting company in Munich and turned to industry after 3 years, joining Sloning. Sandra holds a degree in Business Administration with focus on Finance and Taxes.

management: Jan Van den BrulleDr. Jan Van den Brulle serves as Scientific Director since 2008. In this concern, he is responsible for all internal R&D and production activities. Furthermore, he is in charge of the development of new innovative products and the coordination of external collaborations. Previously he held the position as Head of R&D where he successfully developed Sloning’s premium product, the SlonoMax® variant libraries. Dr. Van den Brulle has joined the company in 2003 as a senior scientist. From 2000 to 2003 Dr. Van den Brulle was group leader at EleGene, a biotech company in Martinsried, where he gained in-depth experience in target validation. Dr. Van den Brulle holds a degree in biology and obtained his PhD in microbiology from the University of Munich.



Dr. Thomas Waldmann

Head of Science & Technology Application

sales: Thomas WaldmannDr. Waldmann has been Head of Science & Technology Application since 2006. He is responsible for technical customer liaison and support in Europe, USA and Japan. He joined Sloning BioTechnology as a scientific group leader in 2002 and contributed significantly to the development of the Slonomics® technology. Before, he has worked successfully in the field of automated screening technologies for several Munich-based biotech companies. Dr. Waldmann gained extensive scientific experience from his postdodoctoral fellowships at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, USA. He holds a degree in biology from the Technical University in Munich, Germany and graduated at the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry, Martinsried, Germany
